He served as the West African Health Organization (WAHO) LIAISON OFFICER FOR THE GAMBIA and member of the RESTRICTED COMMITTEE of WAHO (2009 – 2011). He also served as the Hospital Manager, Aga Khan Health Services in Afghanistan (2011/12); he was Deputy Permanent Secretary Admin/Finance, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (October 2012 to July 2013). He championed the implementation of the ‘SAFE’ strategy of World Health Organization in Trachoma control in The Gambia (1994 to 2000). He championed the introduction of ‘SMS for Health’ in Medicine and Disease control in The Gambia. He was leading Cataract Surgeon in Health for Peace Initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa (1995 to 2009). He coordinated the first ever screening of People with Intellectual Disabilities in The Gambia. He has participated in many International forum as guest speaker in Africa Health Services. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Community Eye Health, University College.
London, and Higher Diploma in Cataract Surgery, Kenya Medical Training College, Kenya and General Ophthalmology Certificate, Lilongwe School for Health Sciences, Malawi. He has a RN Certificate from The Gambia College. He is a Fellow in Hospital Administration and Health Services Management of National Institute of Public Health, Japan and alumni of Ministerial Leadership Programme, Harvard School of Public Health, USA.
He was an Executive Board Member of World Health Organization (2014 to 2017) and member of the Programme, Budget and Administration Committee and Rapporteur of the Executive Council of the World Health Organization. . He has served in many international and National Organizations/ Agencies as board member and special advisor.
He received international awards from the World No Tobacco Day (WHO), West Africa College of Nursing and Regional Eye Care Training Programme amongst others.
